UFOs, Black Holes, and the Fifth Grade from Planck's Constant

A few weeks back I was listening to Art Bell's radio show Coast to Coast AM which I tune into now and again when I get tired of Liberal Lunacy and need to hear people discussing normal things like alien abductions, the planet's imminent destruction due to climate change, and trans-dimensional experiences.

On this particular morning I heard a young man worrying about the new particle accelerator, known as the Large Hadron Collider, that is under construction in an underground circular tunnel nearly 17 miles long at the world's largest physics laboratory, CERN, near Geneva. He was worried that the new accelerator would be used to generate black holes that could suck in the entire earth. This is where a little knowledge and a lot of late night TV collide to form a black hole in this man's brain. Why do people who have absolutely zero understanding of physics speculate as if they were Nobel Laureates? He even wondered how would they be able to detect a black hole if you couldn't see it. The next next thing you know we'll be hearing from some lame-brained politician pretending to be an expert climatologist warning us of a coming conflagration of earth.

OK, quickie course in Physics: Black Holes have mass and therefore can be detected by the gravitational force they exert. If our Sun were a black hole with the same mass it has now, all the planets would continue to circle it unencumbered by the fact we could not see it. And by the way, we've already produced black holes on earth without catastrophic consequences.

I mention this because I often read on Liberal weblogs discussions and comments on how the Palestinians have a right to their own state occupying the current Israeli footprint as if they knew what they were talking about. As if they were Middle East historians, geographers, or archaeologists. It all started in the fifth grade: a young man believes his teacher when instructed that one should always side with the underdog, that Western Civilization is not the best in the world, and that multiculturalism is a virtue. Years later, a liberal reads one Muslim website and believes everything he reads. Why won't he believe in the Israeli side of the story? Because America supports Israel. If America supported Palestinians, the liberals would be crying about the poor plight of the Jews. History, facts, knowledge have nothing to do with their opinion.

Here's an interesting question: Why do Palestinians blow themselves up in Israeli pizza places, schools, buses, restaurants filled with children, women, and non-military?
1) Because life is so worthless to Palestians.
2) Because life is so precious to Israelis.
